Ammonites

I particularly like this specimen because there are many different sizes of ammonites packed into a small space.

What was an ammonite?

A soft bodied tentacled animal related to a squid, the ammonite lived in a coiled shell. Locally, ammonites range in size from a few millimetres to nearly 60 centimetres in diameter. They lived in great numbers in the warm Jurassic seas and their fossils are frequently found along the Dinosaur Coast. They became extinct, along with the dinosaurs, at the end of the Cretaceous period about 65 million years ago.
